The Grapefruit Diet – in many ways the grapefruit diet is similar to the cabbage soup diet – a low calorie starvation type diet that is not suitable for children or adolescents as it is designed for rapid results.
The Grapefruit diet based around the premise that grapefruit contains fat burning properties. There are several versions of this diet and duration varies from 7 to 21 days. These diets are very low in calorie diets usually about 800-1000 calories.
The grapefruit diet also recommends high quantities of caffeine drinks like coffee but not to contain milk or sugar.
If you love grapefruit, this plan may be for you. Grapefruit has no fat, is low in calories and sodium, is packed with vitamin C.
The diet is deficient in protein, fibre and several important vitamins and minerals, so a vitamin supplement is highly advisableas any diet that relies so heavily on a single food will lack in essential vitamins and minerals.
Grapefruit is not proported to contain any fat burning properties and all weight that is lost is due to the diets 800-1000 calorie intake. Grapefruit is a healthy fruit which is fat free and low in calories but any similar diet based on any fruit would work in the same way and also be unhealthy and not give the required nutrition.
If you are after a short-term plan for a special event then you can give it a go, but it is definitely not a long term plan.
