Perricone Diet - otherwise known as the facelift diet or the Salmon diet, is a diet
for those who believe you are what you eat. Created by and named after Yale University dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, author of
the best-selling book "The Wrinkle Cure."

Perricone believes that sugar is responsible
for about half of all skin aging, saying, "It causes inflammation, which damages skin
cells and causes saggy, thick, discolored
skin."

Perricone's face-lift diet is high in protein, with an emphasis on cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel, which contain anti-inflammatory agents. He also encourages dieters to get their carb fix through fruits and vegetables, such as broccoli, blueberries, kiwi, peaches, leafy greens and spinach, all low on the GI index, while avoiding bread, pasta and high GI foods. The theory is that if your blood sugar rises too quickly, inflammatory chemicals that contribute to the aging process will be released.

Besides fish (or other lean proteins such as chicken), Perricone's diet calls for small amounts of fat from olive oil or nuts and lots of fruits and vegetables. So overall it is a healthy, balanced diet.
